Know before you go. As a single traveller you are more vulnerable. Become street smart before you go. Learn where you want to go, put a plan together. Check the sites you want to go to, what hours are they open? Are they open to the public? Is there a charge? Is there local laws and requirements I should know about? Have a list of things to do. Plan each day the night before. Limit social media presence while travelling. Post when you get home. Get the contact info for your embassy or consulate in other countries, know where to find them. CARRY ON VS CHECKED?
Carry-On or Checked Baggage?
Every traveler has their own preference. A carry-on bag allows you to keep medications, electronics, and important items with you at all times. It also saves time since you can skip baggage claim and have immediate access to your belongings. However, carry-ons must meet airline size requirements, and overhead bin space may not always be available.
Checked baggage offers convenience—you simply hand over your bag at the airport and don’t have to worry about it until you arrive at your destination. It allows you to pack larger containers of liquids and more items, although some airlines charge a baggage fee. The trade-off is waiting at the baggage carousel after your flight.
A helpful tip: remove old airline stickers or tags from your luggage. Baggage handlers scan barcodes, and an old tag could accidentally send your suitcase to the wrong destination.
If you check your luggage, keep a small carry-on with essential items such as medications, electronics, travel documents, CPAP equipment, and anything you may need during the flight.

WHILE YOU ARE GONE
Before You Leave for Vacation
Your long-awaited vacation is almost here—but don’t forget about your home while you’re away.
Arrange for someone to check inside your home at least once every 24 hours, as many insurance policies require this. They can also water plants, care for pets, and collect mail or newspapers.
To keep your home looking occupied, consider using timed or smart light bulbs that can be programmed or controlled from your phone. Make sure the yard is maintained as well, whether that means grass cutting in the summer or snow removal in the winter.
If friends or family are unavailable, you may wish to hire a reputable house-sitting or home-watch service.
A little preparation helps ensure peace of mind while you enjoy your vacation.
